Justin Bieber Sued for $9 Million by Concertgoer

Justin Bieber seems to be in the news almost every day recently, whether it be for a scuffle with the paparazzi, or a run in with the police for doing 100 MP/H in his sports car. Today he’s managed to get into the news again, as one of his concertgoers is suing him for $9 Million. The reason: She claims that screaming fans at one of his concerts caused hearing damage.

Stacey Betts, or Portland Oregon, has filed a lawsuit against Justin Bieber, his record label and the promoter of his concert, claiming that she is suffering from permanent hearing loss due to screaming fans at a Bieber concert in Portland on July 14th, 2010.

Betts claims that the hearing loss occurred when Bieber climbed into a heart shaped gondola during his concert and began pointing in different directions towards the crowd. It resulted in a huge wave of screaming fans. Betts claims that Bieber encouraged the screaming by waving his arms in an upward motion, signalling to the crowd to scream louder.

According to Stacey Betts, she believes that concert promoters, managers and artists themselves like Bieber are responsible for ensuring that the sound levels at concerts are safe for concertgoers. Bieber instead encouraged an overly loud audience which has left Betts with permanent hearing loss, severe tinnitus and a sensitivity to sound. As such, she believes that $9 million would be fair compensation.
