George Zimmerman Speaks of Trayvon Martin’s Death
Those paying attention to the news at any point in the past couple of months will know about the
George Zimmerman Trayvon Martin debacle. Zimmerman, the self appointed night watchman of a
gated community, happened upon Martin returning from a convenience store with some candy. Upon
seeing Martin walking through the community Zimmerman, who had a history of being overly skeptical,
decided to pursue Martin due to the suspicious nature of the entire thing. As the story goes, Martin and
Zimmerman then got into an altercation which resulted in Zimmerman fatally shooting Martin. After
getting wind of this the media went into a frenzy covering the story obsessively. Originally, Zimmerman
was not arrested due to his claims of self defense which further angered the public. A massive amount
of supporters came forth claiming that Zimmerman was a killer and that Martin’s death deserves justice.
Flash forward to today and Zimmerman is still not behind bars. Evidence is still being displayed in
court and a verdict has yet to be reached. When exactly that verdict will ultimately be reached remains
a mystery but in the mean time Zimmerman has finally come forth to talk about the encounter –
something that many will be interested to hear.
While he gave his normal spiel about how it was all in self defense, this is all something we’ve heard too
many times for it to be interesting. However, Zimmerman finally gave (what seemed to be) a heartfelt
apology to the parent’s of Trayvon Martin. He expressed sympathy for the parents of the fallen teenager
but ultimately, he still feels he did the right thing.
Following the apology, Zimmerman went on to say that the death of Trayvon Martin was “all God’s
plan”. He then went on to say that he does not have much regret for the actions implying that he would
do exactly the same thing given another chance. Following these words, Martin’s parents came forward
to speak about how “[they] must worship a different God” saying there is no way the death of their
son was God’s work. Regardless of the outcome, it’s easy to see that there won’t be any end to the
drama surrounding this anytime soon. But one thing is clear, the public at large still seems to think that
Zimmerman was in the wrong for doing what he did. We’ll have to wait and see if the courts feel the
same way.
