Is Brad Pitt Dead?
It seems that celebrity death pranks are not about to end soon. Brad Pitt is the latest star to have been affected by such death pranks. News of his death went viral over the weekend on most social media sites. According to the reports, Brad Pitt met his death after crashing into a tree while snowboarding in Zermatt, Switzerland.
The 48-year-old actor officially joins a list of popular celebrities to have suffered from such baseless death claims. Other celebrities in the list include; Charlie Sheen, Adam Sandler, Will Smith and Christian Slater. Although the news was a hoax, it caused quite a stir on many social media sites. Surprisingly, a disclaimer message was portrayed at the bottom of the page where the original story was first posted. Despite the fact that the disclaimer clearly stated that the news was just a hoax, this did not prevent it from spreading like bush-fire across various media platforms, both online and offline.
Pitt’s death hoax was quite similar to Charlie Sheen’s in 2010. Back in 2010, Sheen was reportedly found dead after crashing into a tree while snowboarding. The same case applied to Slater in 2011. Christian Slater was even forced to deny the report after it went viral. He had to assure his fans that he was alive and healthy despite the false rumors about his death.
The year 2010 was marked by numerous death pranks involving top celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Eddie Murphy and Taylor Swift. Most of these false death claims are said to have originated from Global Associated News. According to Rich Hoover, the website’s creator, the site aims at giving top celebrities “free press.” He also acknowledged the fact that most fans get upset after hearing such news but it is all about “free press”.
