Canada to get its own version of X-Factor

Canada to get its own version of X-Factor

Simon Cowell, the mind behind shows such as X-Factory and American Idol has confirmed that he is currently in talks with executives from CTV, over a potential new reality show in Canada. Cowell has stated that he has been inspired by recent Canadian singers, including Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepson, and would like to bring his successful reality show, X Factor, to Canada.

Simon Cowell has previously been disappointed with international versions of his TV shows, including the failed Canadian Idol franchise, however he is confident that with the right judging panel, a Canadian version of X-Factor could be successful. In the interview, Cowell discussed how he feels that the panel of judges is one of the most important aspects of the show. In previous international versions, attempts have been made to mimic the American Idol judging panel, by having a cruel judge, a ditzy girl, along with the third judge. Simon however believes that this model is flawed, as it focuses on finding entertaining judges, rather than judges that are actually qualified to identity real talent. As a result, such shows end up failing when the judges are unable to make the right choices.

When asked whether he would consider being a judge on the Canadian version of the show, Cowell said that he already has his plate full. With two versions of X-factor, he simply wouldn’t have the time to play the role of a judge on a third. However, Cowell did state that he would be happy to make guest appearances throughout the season.

Simon Cowell arrived in Toronto on Monday night and has since been in discussions with Canadian executives. If all goes as planned, Canada could have its own version of X-Factor sometime next year.
