Jennifer Hudson to be recurring Guest Star on Smash

NBC’s latest musical series, Smash, is about to get another American Idol superstar to make a guest appearance on the show. It was just announced that former American Idol contestant, Jennifer Hudson, would be making a guest appearance on the upcoming second season of the show. Hudson will be playing the roll of “Veronica Moore,” a Broadway star.

Jennifer Hudson’s role will last for multiple episodes and will begin with the Season 2 Premier when it is released in early 2013. Steven Spielberg, who is an executive producer for the show has stated that he is thrilled to have Jennifer Hudson guest staring on the show, along with the current cast. He believes that she is a perfect fit for the program thanks to her musical talent that will complement the current talented cast.

The hope is that Hudson’s role will also have a positive impact on ratings, which have fallen since the premier of the show. The pilot episode of Smash had more than 11 million viewers, though this dropped to around 6 million viewers by the end of the season. Nevertheless, the show has become the number one drama on NBC and has significantly improved the time slot rating compared to NBC’s previous programming.

With the introduction of Jennifer Hudson to the show, NBC is confident that ratings will climb and stabilize in the second season. Smash airs on NBC on Monday nights at 10pm.
