MTV Speaks of Jersey Shore’s Cancellation
Despite a notorious amount of controversy, MTV’s Jersey Shore managed to become one of the most popular reality television shows of all time. Originally airing in 2009, Jersey Shore introduced us to a colorful cast of party animals including Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, DJ Pauly D, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and more. At first blush, Jersey Shore appears to have virtually no depth simply following these self proclaimed guidos in their drunken debauchery. However, thanks to the extremely unique line up, millions have been tuning in week after week to see what they get up to next.
Unfortunately for fans of the series, MTV recently came forth to announce that after season 6, Jersey Shore would no longer be produced. This came as quite a shocker to many as Jersey Shore has long been one of MTV’s highest rated shows with fans across the country. Of course, upon further inspection it’s quite easy to see exactly why MTV decided this would be the last season.
If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that several cast members have gone on to do their own spin off shows and essentially live their own lives. Snooki, for example, linked up with Jennifer “JWoww” Farley to produce their own show called Snooki & JWoww. It was during this show that Snooki let the world know that her and boyfriend Jionni LaValle were expecting a baby. Flash forward to today and Snooki’s baby Lorenzo Dominic LaValle is alive and well and her and Jionni are expected to get married. From this alone, it’s easy to see that Snooki’s life would be dramatically different than what it was during previous seasons where we saw Polizzi getting into unheard of amounts of drunken controversy.
Due to the controversy surrounding the show’s cancellation, MTV has come forth to essentially reiterate what we just mentioned above. In a statement, MTV producers let us know that they would rather end the show on a high note than to drag it out only to watch it die a painful death. They went on to say that Snooki’s pregnancy mixed with the ever changing agendas of the cast members make it hard to continue the show. We can’t say we disagree as there have been shows that had a great run only to drag on and die miserably.
What’s your opinion? Do you think MTV should have kept going with Jersey Shore or is this a good time to end it?
